The movement and distribution of water in the critical zone of terrestrial systems establishes fundamental links between multiple compartments of the Earth System across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales.
This course provides an introductory narrative to an Earth System perspective of hydrology, exploring several fundamental links between hydrology, landscape formation, soils, vegetation and the cryosphere and how these interactions necessarily emerge from first principles and, in particular, from the second law of thermodynamics.
